Part Time - 22.5 hours per week (with some flexibility required to engage in evenings and weekend work)

Home Based with travel around Somerset & part of Wiltshire

As a Children & Young Persons Champion you will work closely with our team of Supervising Social Workers and Foster Carers to ensure high quality care and outcomes for our children and their families within Capstone Foster Care. We see this role as contributing significantly to improving the life chances and outcomes for our children and young people.

Responsibilities of a Children & Young People's Champion :

  • Organise appropriate events and activities for children and young people
  • Arrange and engage in various Children’s Forums, Groups and Consultations. Attending relevant statutory meetings to advocate, support and assist in working towards care plans, education plans & individual goals
  • Carry out one to one direct work with Children and Young People on a mentoring or group work basis
  • Supporting families to maintain the stability of Children and Young People’s family matches
  • Carry out regular consultations with our children and young people to ensure they are being listened to and that their views influence service delivery and service development
  • Ensure young people are equipped and practically supported towards independence.
  • Collect, collate and present young people's views as positive drivers for change where necessary and collate information about the educational progress & achievements of children & young people
  • Minute meetings relating to Children & Young People where required and maintaining records.

As a Children & Young Persons Champion you will have:

  • Experience of working within the childcare or education sector (particularly working with teenagers), ideally fostering
  • The ability to work independently and to manage your time effectively
  • Multi-tasking and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional approach to working with people and children from diverse backgrounds
  • MS Office skills
  • A full driving licence and transport, travel within the region is required. Flexibility will be needed to cover out of hours activities.
