We recently celebrated LGBT+ History Month, however as an independent fostering agency, we support LGBT+ fostering all year round. Why even mention this? Because we STILL get asked the question -
The answer is a resounding, yes you can! Sexual orientation or gender identity is not a deciding factor on whether or not you can become a foster carer. Everyone is assessed in exactly the same way and decisions are based on the ability to provide a child with a loving and stable home.
We were delighted to get together (albeit virtually) with foster carers Patrick and Sebastian recently to talk about their experiences in becoming foster carers.
These are just some of the questions we asked Patrick and Sebastian. Sebastian says:
“Take your own experiences of growing up a little bit different, feeling a little bit different to everyone else and use that – because it’s a strength. You can absolutely make a massive difference to children that just need somebody…that need a tribe.”
If you watch one video today, make it this one. Patrick and Sebastian are wonderful foster carers, making a huge difference.
