20th September, 2022
September brings this years annual FosterTalk awards, and with it the opportunity to shine a light on the outstanding work and dedication of the UK’s foster carers, care leavers and social workers.
FosterTalk is an organisation which supports those who care, and they along with all of us at Capstone Foster Care believes that people who care deserve the highest recognition.
Foster Carer of the Year nominee, Saiqa Taj could not be prouder to be amongst those nominated, she told us, “I was so thrilled when I learned about my nomination. I was overwhelmed to be named as a finalist – it really was one of my best days.”
While the news may have come as a surprise to her, at Capstone we feel it is a well-deserved accolade after fourteen years of loyal service from Saiqa and her family, having fostered no less than 32 children in her time here. She has always had a passion for children, being a trained teaching assistant, so when a conversation with a family friend led her to consider a foster care career, she came to Capstone and has not looked back since.
Saiqa continues, “If you have the time and the space why wouldn’t you give a home to a child in need? I am passionate about providing that love and care for each child that comes into my home, as if they were my own children.”
“I must be doing something right, because all of my children have chosen to keep in touch. I still care about them all, even after they have left. They always feel welcome to come to me if they are ever in need of advice.”
It certainly is a family affair and Saiqa credits her husband and children and their support in helping create a loving home, and Saiqa’s own parents are now foster carers for Capstone as well. She is a great ambassador, not only for Capstone Foster Care but for also fostering in general, she would tell anyone who has the time and space to consider fostering.
