As an Independent Fostering Agency, Capstone Foster Care strongly feels that we have a duty of care to invest in the long-term future of children in care.
For many looked after children care and support stops at age eighteen unless a staying put arrangement has been made. But often a young person is facing the realities of life on their own once they leave care.
That is where Capstone Care Leavers Trust comes in, we believe in supporting a young person aged eighteen and beyond.
The trust awards grants to people aged 17 – 25 years who have been in care in England or Wales and are in need. The trust can support with obtaining household items and many of the things that they may need to get a good start in independent life.
Also providing advice and guidance, reassuring them that even though they have left care they are not alone.
We caught up with Trust Manager, Zoe, “My role is such a rewarding one, we help so many get a foot in with setting up for adult life, but the trust also goes way beyond that.”
The Trust applications open at specified times of the year for anyone who has been in care for over thirteen weeks since their fourteenth birthday but is open to applications from young people supported by Capstone all year round.
Over the years the Trust has seen so many positive outcomes as a result of grants being awarded. From supporting people who have had some of the hardest backgrounds to attend university, and follow their aspirations. To funding the purchase of camera equipment to allow a care leaver to grow their business.
Zoe continues, “By investing in our young people, I see so many inspirational stories. These children have had hard upbringings but more often than not when I speak to them as care leavers they have aspirations of using those experiences to help others.”
“I am so proud of what we do here and that we continue to support care leavers to have better futures.”
