Mary Braves the Cold for We Shall Overcome

29th November, 2022

As the weather turns bitter cold we must spare a thought to the countries most vulnerable and homeless, which is why here at Capstone we are all behind Mary. Our Quality Standard’s Manager is braving the cold in We Shall Overcome’s annual rough sleep.

Mary had this to say about the event orangiser, "Pauline who is the landlady of the pub, and a team of volunteers make up packed lunches for people who are homeless, and those who are struggling financially, and will often feed over 100 people per day who arrive at her door.

She also makes up care packages which are sent out to vulnerable adults and older people and is currently collecting 1000’s of selection boxes which are going out to children living with families who are struggling including those who are accessing support from the local authority and many who are seeking asylum.

Some of the lads and lasses who rely on the packed lunches and emotional support are care experienced and have struggled to navigate life after leaving care.

Pauline and her team are lifelines for so many, they receive absolutely no government funding so it's really important that I get involved as much as I can to support this project!

WE SHALL OVERCOME – its very much about community solidarity not charity!"

This is a local project which relies entirely on raising funds through events, including lots of live music, individual challenges and support from local people and community groups.

Every penny counts to this fantastic cause that supports the homeless and vulnerable over the festive period. With care leavers being at risk of becoming rough sleepers, it is a fantastic local cause to get behind.
