When you foster it’s often those little things you do that makes all the difference to the young person in front of you. Make no mistake, welcoming a new child into your household and into your heart is no small feat. So, we were intrigued to find out about those little things that our foster carers do in order to prepare their home for when a new child or young person arrives.
First there is the preparation, as one of our fostering families told us…
We couldn’t agree more, every fostering household requires a spare room to be a safe space that is entirely for the foster child. Keeping it a neutral space will allow them to bring their individuality.
Another of our fostering families takes this one step further…
We love this small detail as it goes a long way in making the new child feeling immediately at home.
These are some great tips for readying the home, but what about when the child arrives? Our fostering families have some great advice for that too…
Perfect. Bonding over a first night takeaway sounds like a good ritual to have for any time a new child comes to stay.
For us at Capstone Foster Care, one piece of advice that we will always live by is fostering is a family affair. Be sure to get the children who are living in the household involved. We love the way this fostering family embraces having a new young person coming to them…
