18th March, 2025
The 18th of March marks National Child Exploitation Awareness Day, and here at Capstone we are using our collective voice along with NWG to speak out against child abuse and adopt a zero-tolerance stance on abusive and inappropriate relationships with children and young people. Child exploitation can impact any child, in any community.
All children and young people under the age of 18 have a right to be safe and should be protected from harm. Too often we have witnessed situations where young people are abused in inappropriate relationships with adults.
Child abuse is never okay, and it is never EVER the fault of the child.
Safeguarding children is everyone’s responsibility. It is up to us, the adults, to look for signs and report if we suspect this type of abuse.
By opening up the conversation and keeping it going, we are raising awareness and hopefully giving the victims of exploitation an opportunity to speak out against their abusers.
- Changes in children’s mood and presentation
- Abusers can groom children by giving gifts, stay vigilant if unaccounted for items start turning up
- Children can become protective of their phones/they may be constantly receiving texts from the abuser
Gang-association and/or isolation from the child’s peers/social networks. Join us over on our social channels today to join the pledge! For more resources and information head over to the NWG website: National Child Exploitation Awareness Day - NWG Network
